The River Lossie rises at around 400m on Carn Shelag and flows down through Dallas and Kellas. From there the B9010 follows the route of the river into Elgin, After meandering around Elgin it heads for the Moray Firth at, of all places, Lossiemouth.
The Elgin area distilleries are grouped under the Lossie, as though not all are directly in its valley, the burns that pass them and supply their water (if only for cooling), flow into the Lossie.
All the distilleries are to the East of the river, except Miltonduff.
