Coll is one of the most westerly of the Inner Hebridean islands.
Although only slightly smaller than neighbouring Tiree, the population is less than 200 (Tiree has nearly 800 inhabitants). Being close to Tiree the climate is similar, though Collachs claim that Tiree's reputation of being the sunniest place in Britain is only because Tiree has an official weather station and Coll doesn't! The island is surrounded by practically deserted sandy beaches. Note that there is very little mobile phone coverage on Coll! (Some Maps may give place names in only Gaelic or only English, so spellings may vary). By CalMac ferry (timetable Winter Summer). 5 sailings a week in summer, 3 times a week in winter, takes just under 3 hours from Oban, where the ferry terminal is adjacent to the railway station - Oban (OBN) Live Train Times. In Summer there's also a Thursday sailing that goes forward to Barra and returns later in the day, allowing over eight hours stay on Coll. Fly from Oban (Hebridean Air Services).
