Highland Distilleries - CentralIn the Central division of the Highlands, I've included the Perthshire distilleries and also those north of the Pass of Drumochter, but south of Inverness. The latter are sometimes classified as Northern Highlands, or even Speyside. All these distilleries have visitor centres with Glenturret doubling as the Home of the Famous Grouse, and Aberfeldy as Dewar's World of Whisky, while Blair Athol is the home of Bell's.
The A9 and the accompanying Highland Main Line railway links all the distilleries on their northward journey between Dunblane and Inverness - none being more than 10 miles away from them. The whisky produced at these distilleries varies from the light, floral notes of Dalwhinnie (Scotland's highest distillery - and now technically in Speyside Region) to far more robust malts from Aberfeldy and Blair Athol. |
