My visit to Balblair Distillery in July 2010 - before the visitor centre opened - was a tour with then Assistant Manager, Graham Bowie, very informative, and an excellent tasting at the end. Vital Stats
Balblair was originally at a different site, but still retained the same water source when moved half a mile north to the current location next to the railway in 1895.
But the economic downturn of the early 20th century saw Balblair fall silent from 1911 until 1949. In 1949 it was restarted by Bertie Cumming, who sold it in 1970 to Hiram Walker, which later became Allied Distillers. In 1996 Balblair was sold to Inver House, who have subsequently become part of International Beverage Holdings. Malt Madness, Wikipedia, WhiskyMerchants.co.uk scotchwhisky.com |

Open Cycle Map Bing Map Glenmorangie Teaninich Dalmore Glen Ord Distilleries Highland Distilleries Northern Highlands Edderton Station was right next to the distillery, (hence Station Road), but closed in 1960 and is now a private house. Nearest station is Tain (TAI) (5 miles) - Alternatively Ardgay (ARD) is about 8 miles away. Only platform 2 has level access. Platform 1 is over the stepped footbridge. Live Train Times: TAI, ARD. Trains aren't very frequent this far north! If your bike's laid up, services 900 and 920 run from Tain through Edderton about 5 times a day. Leave Tain on the A9, past Glenmorangie Distillery, and carry straight on at the roundabout where the A9 heads across the Dornoch Firth Bridge. Balblair Distillery is off Station Road, Edderton, which is in turn off the A836 from Tain to Ardgay, about 6 miles from Tain. The Distillery entrance is opposite the Edderton Inn.
