Lossiemouth is known as the Jewel of Moray. It has extensive harbour facilities which were once home to a large fishing fleet, but now largely given over to recreational sailing. It was for many years Elgin's port, after the nearer port of Spynie became landlocked. Historically, settlements of Kinneddar, Stotfield, Seatown and Branderburgh ultimately merged into modern day Lossiemouth.
Lossiemouth has a large RAF base. It was also the birthplace of the first Labour Prime Minister, Ramsay MacDonald. Arriving & DepartingOpen Cycle Map Bing Map
Lossiemouth is not on National Cycle Route 1, which leaves the coast to run through nearby Elgin, but there are several signposted local routes and signposted routes to Elgin, Hopeman and Garmouth. There is also a cycleable path along the closed Lossiemouth - Elgin railway line, but this is not well signposted, and doesn't get you all the way to Elgin. Nearest rail station is Elgin (ELG) (6 miles) which has level access to both platforms (for Platform 2 use New Elgin Road bridge heading for Rothes (A941), right at roundabout into Edgar Road, then 1st right adjacent to Asda car park) and now has a new footbridge with lifts not shown on station plan as yet. Not frequent enough trains to Aberdeen & Inverness. Live train times: ELG SleepingCeilidh B&B 34 Clifton Road 01343 815848
