Leith
Arriving & DepartingOpen Cycle Map Bing Map
Leith is on National Cycle Route 75, and many local cycle routes, several of which are along the routes of some of the railways that used to reach Leith - freight stubs pf some of these lines still exist, but Leith and Edinburgh's roads could have been a lot less busy if past closures had not taken place. The main road and shortest route between Edinburgh and Leith (Leith Walk) has an on-road cycle lane at the Leith end, which is plagued by double-parking, and a segregated cycle path for part of the Edinburgh end, which has been constructed but still has "Cycleway Not in Use" signs - the surface of this part of the road is appalling. Access to East Leith is therefore better via Easter Road or Meadowbank and Lochend; and West Leith via NCN75, though the Edinburgh end of this is cobbled (technically setted), as are many other side streets in Edinburgh and Leith. Dundas Street/Eyre Place could be used to avoid this (though again there are surface issues); or the slightly busier, but better surfaced Broughton Street/Bellevue/Rodney Street - all these routes bring you to the commencement of the Warriston Path (off road). Nearest rail station now is Edinburgh Waverley (EDB) (2 miles) which has ramped access to 13 of its 18 platforms from Waverley Bridge. Other entrances and platforms have lift access. All trains to the west of Edinburgh also call at Haymarket (HYM) (5 miles by almost entirely off-road path) - lifts to all platforms. (Platform length can be an issue at Haymarket for some longer trains). Live train times: EDB HYM. In Edinburgh, bikes can be taken on the trams. SleepingCeilidh B&B 34 Clifton Road 01343 815848
